Fire outside office was caused by smoker

by isleofman.com 17th March 2009
Office workers who are now forced by law to smoke out of doors are being told they must still make sure their cigarettes are properly stubbed out.

It follows a recent incident in which crews from Douglas had to deal with a fire caused by a carelessly discarded butt.

Waste material at the back of an office in Victoria Street was ignited, and the Fire and Rescue Service was called, following reports of smoke coming into the building.

Fire fighters used breathing apparatus, a thermal image camera, a hose reel and an electric saw.

There was slight damage to a ground floor office, but no one was hurt.
