'Government should take out loan to pay depositors'

A Kaupthing Singer and Friedlander depositor is suggesting what he sees as a more cost effective solution for the Manx government than the proposed Scheme of Arrangement.

United Kingdom Prime Minister Gordon Brown recently said all governments should vouchsafe the savings and deposits in the banks in their jurisdictions, and Ian Davison says that should happen in the Isle of Man.

Treasury Minister Allan Bell has said for some time he believes the Scheme of Arrangement offers the best solution for the most KSF depositors, and has ruled out the Island taking out a massive loan to repay the KSF depositors in full.

But Mr Davison wants the Island to approach Gordon Brown so a sovereign loan can be arranged.

This is what he told Manx Radio in a recent interview, recorded before Mr Bell's rejection of the loan idea:
