From sewage pumping stations to the taxi trade, and Whitley Council to the Scheme of Arrangement for Kaupthing depositors, there's plenty on the order paper for the March sitting of Tynwald, which gets underway this morning.

After question time, consisting of 24 items for oral answer and eight for written reply, Transport Minister David Anderson will seek permission to spend up to ?545,000 on a project to refurbish sewage pumping stations on the Island.

He will then look for Tynwald's approval to carry out further public consultation on the long running proposals to deregulate the Island's taxi trade, and report back by June.

The Whitley Council will be under the spotlight, with Chief Minister Tony Brown due to propose an urgent, independent review of the negotiating body.

It follows the recent row which led to John Houghton, MHK, resigning as chairman of the employers' side.

Among other things the review would look at the constitution, governance and administration of the organisation, and report back by October.

Onchan MHK Peter Karran will suggest a new-style depositors' compensation scheme for the Island, based on an insurance system funded by a levy on account holders, and Ayre MHK Eddie Teare will call for the annulment of approval for another waste disposal site in the far north of the Island.

A supplementary order paper will see Treasury Minister Allan Bell seek approval for the transfer of ?180 million from government reserves, to cover the Kaupthing Singer and Friedlander Scheme of Arrangement.

The sitting is due to start at 10.30am and there will be full commentary on Manx Radio's 1368 AM frequency.
