Earth Hour invitation to Island residents

by isleofman.com 16th March 2009
People in the Isle of Man are being asked to turn their electricity off for an hour later this month, to make a point about climate change.

Earth Hour is part of a global initiative by the World Wildlife Fund, which is looking for a billion people to take part in the blackout.

It will be staged on Saturday, March 28 and has been arranged ahead of a key summit in Copenhagen in December, which will be looking at global warming.

On Manx Radio's Talking Heads today, Cheryl Cousins from the One World Centre described it as "a symbolic gesture" (play attached audio file):

You can visit wwf.org.uk/earthhour to register for the initiative online.

People thinking of taking part are also being encouraged to get in touch with the One World Centre.
