Phoenix off the bottom

by isleofman.com 15th March 2009
Phoenix caused one of the shocks of the season in the women’s Premier League on Saturday.

A Julie Burrows goal defeated Bacchas A and leapfrogged them above their opponents who now lie bottom of the table.

At the other end, Vikings A continue to romp to the title.

They’re now seven points clear after a 2-0 win over Valkyrs A, courtesy of Dani Coombes and Delta Williams goals.

In men’s Premier League, champions Bacchas A annihilated Ramsey A 21-0 but the match could have to be replayed as Ramsey played much of the match with seven players and ended with six!

Karl Moore hit nine, Andy Whiting grabbed four, David Kneale notched a hat-trick of his own, there were doubles from Shaun Corlett and Gareth Craig and Jamie Cox grabbed the other.

In the other top-flight games, Valkyrs A’s title bid gathered further momentum as they defeated Vikings A 4-2, thanks to goals from Chris Caldwell (two), Gerry Quinn and Steven Lowe.

Conor Byrne and Simon Foster replied for Vikings A.

Goals from Sven Lindeque, Paul Kelly and Adrian Rigg earned Castletown A a 3-1 win over Bacchas B, for whom Dan Shuttleworth found the net, while Vikings B and Valkyrs B shared four goals.

Christian Davis and Christian Forbes were the Vikings’ scorers with Vic Fearns and Nick Walt on target for Valkyrs B.
