Highlight of social calendar this evening

A dazzling array of undiscovered talent will take to the stage at the famous Braaid Eisteddfod.

Performers will compete in 14 different categories, from song and instrument solos to choir singing, recitations and humorous stories.

Among the more unusual categories are hymm raising and the 'stump' speech, where contestants will be asked to speak on a given subject for two minutes.

It's all in front of a panel of adjudicators, but there's no published list of entrants.

Instead, contestants are invited to take to the stage on the night.

Eisteddfod chairman Ian Qualtrough says spontaneity is the key to their success:
