Bell receives second 'more threatening' letter

by isleofman.com 13th March 2009
Treasury Minister Allan Bell has revealed he has had two letters from renegade Kaupthing Singer and Friedlander depositors, which have been referred to the police.

Earlier this week, the Lord Bishop contacted the Island’s police force after an intimidating letter was sent to all Tynwald members threatening to expose alleged scandal and corruption among as many politicians as possible.

The Attorney General isn’t taking that matter further, but Mr Bell says he has received another, more threatening message, which has also been passed to police for investigation.

He told Manx Radio:

"The Bishop was rightly upset about the letter we all received, in effect threatening blackmail, if we don't return 100% of the depositors' money.

"The Bishop's letter was the second letter. I had received a letter which was referred to the Attorney General a few weeks ago, a much nastier letter, threatening the same course of action.

"I believe the vast majority of depositors would be horrified if they had seen these letters and would disassociate themselves from them."
