Man allowed friends to smoke cannabis

by isleofman.com 12th March 2009
An 18 year-old man caught smoking cannabis with friends in a Douglas guesthouse will be sentenced later this month by High Bailiff Michael Moyle.

Oliver James Hamon, of Empire Terrace in Douglas, admitted possessing the drug and allowing it to be smoked in his room.

Inspector Andrew Turner, prosecuting, said police were looking for a missing woman on January 13 when they went to the guesthouse.

When they went inside, they smelt smoke and knocked on Hamon’s door, only to be confronted by a wall of smoke.

The court heard the officers had to open windows to clear the haze, and found three other people in the room along with 1.5 grammes of cannabis and smoking materials.

Hamon said the cannabis was his and admitted giving it to his friends and letting them smoke it in his room.

Mr Moyle bailed him to appear for sentencing on March 31, and adjourned the case for a community service assessment.
