Contrasting views from KSF depositors

by isleofman.com 11th March 2009
A depositor with the collapsed bank Kaupthing Singer and Friedlander believes the Manx Government needs to act quickly to save its reputation.

Alistair Leece, who lives in Barbados, is distancing himself from a recent letter, allegedly sent by a group of KSF depositors to some members of Tynwald.

The letter says that if a public statement isn't made by April 9, assuring depositors they will be reimbursed in full, the group behind it will: "re-examine, and publicise globally, scandals and corruption by Island politicians, past and present".

Mr Leece says he has no idea who sent it, but he doesn't think the Isle of Man has done enough to defend the rights of KSF depositors.

Fellow depositor Ian Davison is more supportive, and believes the Island can stand up to international scrutiny.

He told Manx Radio:

"The regulatory regime in the Isle of Man has been praised on many occasions.

"There are failings everywhere, we've seen failings in the UK and many of them.

"There have been failings in the Isle of Man as well, but in general terms the opinions worldwide have been that it's a well regulated financial centre."

Police in the Island have considered the letter and say they will be taking no action.
