Motorcycle instructor 'a danger to himself and others'

by isleofman.com 10th March 2009
A part-time motorcycle instructor from Bolton has been convicted of dangerous riding.

Forty-two year-old Robin Melmouth was filmed by a police officer who was on an unmarked bike.

Melmouth was seen overtaking vehicles while riding into a blind bend, on the road between Glen Helen and Kirk Michael, last August.

His riding forced vehicles travelling in the opposite direction to pull in to avoid a collision.

He was fined ?1,500 and disqualified from holding a licence for 15 months.

Melmouth was described in court as a danger to himself and others and police said his standard of riding was "disappointing", given his qualifications.

The use of unmarked police motorcycles and CCTV to detect such offences is considered a success, and police say it will continue.
