Bunscoill pupils put Uganda charity closer to target

by isleofman.com 10th March 2009
A cheque for ?915 has been handed over to the Manx registered charity "School for Uganda", by Bunscoill Ghaelgagh at St John's.

Pupils raised some of the money through a sponsored walk to increase awareness about the lives of children in the Third World.

The rest came from a collection after the Christmas concert, and support from parents of the 55 pupils.

The charity was established in 2004 by Elizabeth Bankes-Jones, and connections were made between Foxdale School and Good Hope Primary School in Uganda.

The aim of the charity is to build an eco-friendly school and farm for the children of Namungoona, many of whom are orphaned as a result of AIDS

The Overseas Aid Committee offered to donate ?20,880 if the charity was able to raise ?13,000 by the end of the current financial year.

Cheques made payable to "School for Uganda" can be sent to Elizabeth Bankes-Jones at 6, Brookfield Terrace, Foxdale, IM4 3ED.
