Dilapidated properties to go under regeneration scheme?

by isleofman.com 10th March 2009
It looks as if a multi-million pound regeneration scheme could mean the beginning of the end for eyesore properties in the Island.

In the House of Keys today, North Douglas MHK Bill Henderson asked Trade and Industry Minister David Cretney about the recently approved Town and Village Regeneration Scheme.

In particular, he wanted to know whether any cash would be put aside to deal with eyesore properties in the capital.

In response, Mr Cretney said properties which blighted town centres could expect action.

He told the House:

"I'm quite sure some of the eyesores in Douglas as referred to in the question are precisely the type of properties that will be the subject of projects to be put forward under the scheme - indeed not only those eyesores in Douglas but in other town and village commercial centres across the Island.

"I would again make the point, however, that this scheme is not put in place to duplicate the powers and responsibilities of local authorities, who have an important role in these matters."
