The chief constable has been outlining his plans for protecting young people from alcohol over the next few years.

In an address to the opening session of the Triennial Licensing Court, Mike Langdon thanked the court for the commitment and emphasis that is placed on licensing in the Isle of Man.

He said the relationship between young people and alcohol genuinely concerned him and posed a significant risk, adding that everybody had a massive role in resolving the dilemma, including parents who had a responsibilty to educate and influence behaviour.

Mr Langdon also said it was agreed the Island's licensing laws needed to be modernised and he had discussed his concerns with the minister for home affairs.

He said such changes would include reviewing the law relating to alcohol sales, addressing the issue of drinks promotions and strengthening the ability of the courts to deal with people who had caused trouble after drinking too much.
