Nomads take charge in Bowl and Trophy

by isleofman.com 8th March 2009
It was a great day at the office for Southern Nomads Rugby Club as their first and second teams both recorded wins to put them on top of the tables in the Shimmin Wilson Manx Bowl and Trophy competitions.

Southern Nomads beat Ramsey B 28-5 at Mooragh Park to go top of the Manx Trophy Standings.

Tries from Ross McCulloch and Al Corrin, both converted by Corrin, gave them a 14-0 half-time lead.

Ramsey hit back with a try from club chairman Billy Kneale but two late scores sealed the game for Nomads.

Emerging Nomads recorded their first win of the season with a 16-10 win over Castletown at Poulsom Park.

Penalties from Sam Peel and Dave Edge left the game tied three apiece at the break.

A try from replacement prop Brendan O’Sullivan put Nomads ahead and two penalties and a conversion from Edge pushed the lead out to 16-3.

Town picked up a bizarre late penalty try which Peel converted but they ran out of time before they could build on it.
