Dangers of smoking brought home by fire

by isleofman.com 6th March 2009
Three fire crews from Douglas tackled a house blaze caused by a discarded cigarette, at about 6.30 this morning.

It started in the lounge of the property in Osbourne Grove and took about 15 minutes to bring under control.

The crews stayed for another hour to make sure the fire had been fully extinguished.

One person lives in the house and they escaped unhurt before the emergency services arrived.

Following the incident the Isle of Man Fire and Rescue Service is reminding smokers to always use an ashtray, and never smoke in bed.
