Hedges Shines In Varsity Match

by isleofman.com 4th March 2009
Manx Gymnast Alex Hedges has won the individual all-round title at the annual Cambridge against Oxford Varsity match.

Performing new routines for the first time, which he hopes to use to qualify for the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, he recorded an impressive overall score of 86.40.

Alex earned his fourth Cambridge Blue as he also took overall charge of the men's and women's teams who beat their fierce rivals.

Commenting after his last appearance for the university, he said “It was the busiest I’ve ever been at an event but I’ll really miss it. I’ll probably be here judging and coaching next year though. My routines all went well with the new parts feeling solid, just one or two wobbles. I’ll polish them some more for the big events I’ve got coming and might be introducing further difficulty as we go.”

His next event is the British Team Championships.
