Killer exorcised spirits at Castle Mona

by isleofman.com 3rd March 2009
A spiritualist minister who murdered a BBC make-up artist flew to the Isle of Man to perform an exorcism on a film set, it’s been revealed.

David Chenery-Wickens has been convicted of killing his wife Diane after she found out he was cheating on her.

He was jailed for life at Lewes Crown Court and told he would serve a minimum of 18 years.

Chenery-Wickens, 52, came to the Isle of Man in 1997 shortly after meeting Diane to exorcise evil spirits she complained were plaguing a film.

Jason Roberts reports (text, below, from attached audio file):

Mrs Chenery-Wickens was working on the 1998 thriller Appetite which was being filmed in the Castle Mona Hotel when she complained of problems with the crew and claimed spirits were visiting her in her room at night.

He performed an exorcism, explaining the spirits were the lost souls of mentally ill patients sent to the Island by the Victorians.

A few weeks later, they moved in together and eventually married.

But Mrs Chenery-Wickens paid with her life when she confronted him about phone calls to a mistress and a gay sex chatline.

Police spent four months searching for her body after her husband reported her as missing on January 24 last year.
