Vikings and Bacchas in six-goal thriller

by isleofman.com 1st March 2009
The match of the day in men’s hockey was a thriller on Saturday.

Vikings A and reigning champions Bacchas A drew 3-3.

They were the first points Bacchas have dropped this season, albeit against a title rival, while another rival, Valkyrs A, saw off the challenge of Ramsey A 3-0, courtesy of goals from Gareth Morris, Chris Thomas and Stephen Lowe.

Goals from Don Stewart, Ian Wrigley and Paul Kelly secured Castletown A an impressive 3-1 win over Bacchas B, whose goal was scored by David Partington.

At the bottom of the table, Ken Carney scored the solitary goal as Vikings B defeated Valkyrs B.

In the women’s Premier League, Kim Carney continued the Vikings A juggernaut with the only goal of the game against Ramsey A.

Bacchas A fought back from 3-0 down to draw with Castletown.

Town had been in control through Kerry Kelly, Hannah Logan and Lauren Stewart goals but Bacchas fought back to earn a fine point with a Donna Harrison double and one from Niamh Goddard.

The other top-flight game also ended all square as Phoenix A and Valkyrs A traded goals.
