Nine receive double nominations

Forty-one individuals and four teams are in with a shout of picking up an Isle of Man Bank Sports Award for 2008.

The nominations have been released and show nine stars nominated in two categories.

Cyclists Jonny Bellis, Mark Cavendish and Peter Kennaugh, motorcyclist Dan Kneen, enduro rider David Knight, sidecar ace Nick Crowe, snowboarder Zoe Gillings, swimmer Olivia Rawlinson and 12-year-old golfer Emma Harris are the nine with double chances.

All the gents mentioned have a chance of picking up the sportsman of the year title, while the girls are joined by kickboxer Helen Bannan and Vagabonds rugby player Fran Hunt join the race for sportswoman of the year.

Cavendish, Crowe, Gillings and Knight line up with World Supersport Champion Andrew Pitt and MotoGP rider James Toseland in the ambassador class.

There are also awards for under-21 sportsman and woman, disability sportsperson, club official, coach, lifetime achievement and team where rugby is represented by Douglas and Vagabonds women, football has St. George's and cricket fields Ramsey.

The winners will be announced at a gala evening at the Villa Marina on Thursday 9th April.
