Bus strike moves step nearer

by isleofman.com 23rd February 2009
Key workers within the Island's bus service have voted in favour of industrial action - which could lead to a strike.

Bus inspectors and depot supervisors were balloted in a long-running dispute over work patterns and overtime payments.

Although a small group, a walk-out would have a direct impact on bus services.

Their union Prospect says it has got nowhere in talks with the Department of Tourism and Leisure which have been going on for more than a year.

Negotiations officer Angela Moffatt says the union's been concerned for some time about the long hours worked by inspectors and supervisors.

She claims they are routinely covering other jobs in the bus service for no proper reward.
