Clear Win for Cringle in Arthur Jones Fell Race

by isleofman.com 23rd February 2009

Poor weather conditions on Sunday proved no obstacle to Castletown fell runner Tom Cringle (pictured), who took an effortless win in the Arthur Jones fell race. With a time of 2:20:03, he finished the 15-mile race 3 minutes and 19 seconds ahead of second-placed Simon Skillicorn. Ben Scott came in third, followed by Steve Partington.

Manx Harriers’ Sarah Curphey won the women’s race with an excellent time of 3:11:25, just under an hour ahead of the next woman home, Justine Bowen; Julie Cretney and Lynne Quine claimed third and fourth respectively.

The Arthur Jones Fell Race, which starts and ends at Tom the Dipper’s above Ballakillowey, Colby, is a challenging fixture in the Manx Fell League, with an ascent of 4,000 feet. Competitors in this year’s race tackled heavy mud and fog over South Barrule.

The next date in the fell running calendar is the Snaefell Fell Race on March 21st, followed by the Mountain Marathon on April 11th.
