'Joy rider' warned jail likely

by isleofman.com 19th February 2009
Sentence on an 18 year-old man who committed a string of motoring offences has been adjourned by High Bailiff Michael Moyle for reports.

Damon Thomas Corrin, of School Hill Avenue in Castletown, admitted a total of seven offences, namely taking a vehicle without the owner's consent, driving while disqualified, not having insurance, driving without due care and attention, failing to stop after an accident and report it, and damaging property.

Inspector Andrew Turner, prosecuting, said the defendant took a car on January 28 and, with his girlfriend as passenger, drove to St John's where he crashed into a wall, causing extensive damage.

The pair left the scene, but Corrin was arrested on the railway line in the village.

On September 14 the defendant damaged a CCTV camera at a filling station in Castletown.

Corrin was bailed until March 10 and warned that custody was likely.
