Vintage hard rockers Whitesnake will play a one-off gig at the Villa Marina on June 9th as part of their 2009 tour, according to the band’s official website.
Whitesnake, formed by Deep Purple alumnus David Coverdale, have been together for over thirty years.
While their early output was compared by critics to Deep Purple, the late Eighties saw them take a softer direction and enjoy chart hits with ‘Is This Love?’ and ‘Here I Go Again’.
At one point, their colourful line-up included Black Sabbath drummer Cozy Powell, while Coverdale once recorded a successful collaboration with Led Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page.
In November last year, the band received Classic Rock’s Best Album award for ‘Good to be Bad’, their eleventh album. Summer 2009 sees two anniversary re-releases of classic albums ‘Slip of the Tongue’ and ‘Slide It In’ and on June 14th, they share the bill at Download Festival with Sheffield rock stalwarts Def Leppard.
The event has yet to be confirmed by the Department of Tourism and Leisure.
Tourism Minister Quayle told isleofman.com: "I am hopeful that final arrangements to bring Whitesnake to the Isle of Man for the TT festival will be completed soon and I am extremely excited at the prospect of this legendary rock band performing in the Villa Marina Gardens. They have a massive following and I know that since the announcement, there have already been lots of requests for tickets".
It is anticipated that tickets will go on sale early in March, before which time the Villa Marina will not accept requests. An announcment will be made across the media - see isleofman.com New and Events for further details - and to all subscribers to the Villa Marina and Gaiety Theatre e-newsletter (to sign up, visit wwwvillagaiety.com and follow the link to join).
