Energy study will help DTI form policy

by isleofman.com 18th February 2009
The findings of an energy consultation undertaken by the Department of Trade and Industry have been published.

The study was based on 1,000 questionnaires which were returned to the department from members of the public and organisations.

Questions included suggestions for wind turbines, with 69 per cent of people in favour of onshore farms and 85 per cent supporting their construction in offshore locations.

Tidal power proved even more popular, with 97 per cent of respondants backing that option.

Another question asked if public sector housing should 'set the standard' as far as energy efficiency was concerned. Ninety-three per cent of respondants said it should.

Trade and Industry Minister David Cretney says he is encouraged by the responses and sees the consultation as the start of a process which will help to determine the Island's energy policy.
