Minister prepares to make DHSS savings

Health Minister Eddie Tears says thanks to yesterday’s budget, it won’t be a year of cuts in the DHSS – but the department will have to tighten its belt.

His department, the government’s biggest spender, was given an extra ?13.3 million to pay for the Island’s healthcare and welfare over the next year.

That extra cash isn’t the only thing that will help the department pay its way, as Mr Teare says he wants to save money wherever possible.

He says that won’t mean cuts to services, and all savings have to be carefully considered:
