Steam Packet brings over an unusual cargo

The Southern 100 Motorcycle Racing Club has imported 800 straw bales to protect racers this summer.

The bales will be placed around the Billown circuit for a number of events, including the Pre TT Classic, the TT races and the Southern 100.

The club had to import from the United Kingdom because no one on the Island can produce square bales.

Club president Derek Nicholson says a contact in Preston had to go as far as Hull to find suitable materials:
