Charity explains rules for visits to Island

A charity which provides holidays for children whose country was affected by the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear disaster says it's not true they would have to be adopted, if they stayed on the Isle of Man for more than 28 days.

The suggestion was made on the Mannin Line yesterday.

Friends of Chernobyl's Children has provided holiday breaks for groups of youngsters for many years, giving them a change of environment from the pollution and poverty of their home in Belarus.

Chairman of the charity Norman Rivers says the children cannot be adopted, and they are limited to a month on the Island for bureaucratic reasons:
