Drug raids success

by isleofman.com 16th February 2009
Police have confirmed they arrested eleven people during a series of raids on suspected drug dealers and users over the past week.

Operation Deflect II has only been made public today, after police targeted locations around the Island.

Of those arrested, three people have been charged and a quantity of class A and B drugs seized.

Marian Kenny has more (text, below, from attached audio file):

The operation to disrupt the Island's drugs scene was masterminded by the Pro Active police team, which executed twelve warrants over seven consecutive days.

The raids were intelligence-led, and among the first to be carried out since cannabis was reclassified from a class C to Class B drug in January.

Three people have been charged with offences, six released on bail, one cautioned and one reported to the drug arrest referral team.

Heroin, cocaine, amphetemine and cannabis bush, resin and plants were recovered, along with 20 stolen mobile phones.

Acting Sergeant Louise Kennaugh says the raids generated further information from local residents.
