Government criticised for bringing forward bill

by isleofman.com 13th February 2009
On Manx Radio today, North Douglas MHK John Houghton continued to defend his comments about the rights of transsexuals.

In the House of Keys on Tuesday he claimed the Gender Recognition Bill defied "common decency", and called for it to be scrapped.

His attitude provoked anger among his fellow members, with several publicly distancing themselves from his remarks.

Mr Houghton is standing by everything he said and told Manx Radio:

"My comments are telling the people of the Isle of Man what is going on in the House of Keys, that we've got nothing else to think about in the House of Keys, only a Gender Recognition Bill.

"Something really that the government has brought through as a human rights compliance with the United Kingdom government."
