Minister spells out importance of biodiversity

by isleofman.com 11th February 2009
The Isle of Man is lending its weight to a bid to halt the loss of biodiversity in overseas territories.

Biodiversity is the variation of life forms within a given ecosystem

Agriculture Minister Phil Gawne and chief wildlife and conservation officer Liz Charter recently attended a conference on the subject at Westminster.

It revolved around the difficulties for some territories of policing their waters, and sustainable fishing.

Mr Gawne says the Island has rich and varied wildlife and it's vital people work together to stop the loss of biodiversity and protect our local populations.
