'Motorists endanger lives outside school'

by isleofman.com 6th February 2009
A Kewaigue woman says she feels her life, and those of her children, are at risk every morning when they walk to the local primary school.

Andrea Brockbank is demanding something be done about the speed of traffic on the road outside the school, and South Douglas MHK David Cretney says he has asked for the issue to be examined.

Ms Brockbank says the way people drive makes it almost impossible to cross without taking a big risk.

She told Manx Radio:

"The problem is the 20 miles an hour sign stops before the pavement starts, and that's where they speed up to 40."

She agreed she would like to see the 20 miles an hour zone extended, saying:

"It needs to be because if they were 'doing 20' I'd have a better chance of getting across, because that means when there is a gap they wouldn't be speeding up, and I'd have a better chance of getting over.
