Fourth radio station - consultation begins

by isleofman.com 4th February 2009
A consultation has been launched on proposals to set up a fourth radio station in the Isle of Man.

An application went into the Communications Commission last year for a licence for Blast FM, which would broadcast to less than half the Island's population and only at weekends.

Blast FM would target young adults, under the age of 25, and would have a youth format playing chart dance music and R&B.

It's been suggested the station would cover the Douglas and Onchan area and would have a comedic style. It would relay on sponsorship for funding and wouldn't have adverts.

The application to the commission says Blast FM would broadcast between 6pm on Fridays and midnight on Sundays and would include road safety broadcasts.

The consultation will run to the end of this month.
