IoM defeat holders to reach semi-finals

The Isle of Man are in the semi-finals of the English FA County Youth Cup after an excellent quarter-final victory at holders Suffolk.

Goals from Josh Kelly and Jack McVeigh sealed a memorable 2-1 success for Kevin Manning’s side.

The Isle of Man trailed early on as the hosts controlled the opening stages and went deservedly in front.

However, Rushen front-man Kelly equalised and, as a hard fought battle continued, Suffolk were reduced to ten men in the second half.

With the tie all-square, the Island were awarded a penalty eight minutes from time which St George’s player Jack McVeigh converted.

And a goal-line clearance in the final moments denied Suffolk an equaliser as the Island booked a semi-final berth where they’ll meet the winners of the Durham v Kent quarter-final.
