Busy year for RNLI

Last year was one of the busiest ever for the RNLI in the Isle of Man, and the public is being asked to help keep the Island's lifeboats afloat.

Statistics have been released to coincide with SOS Day, the organisation's biggest fundraising event of the year.

There was a sharp rise in the number of rescues, with launches at the five stations up 43 per cent from 51 in 2007, to 73 last year.

Nearly 100 people were brought safely ashore in 2008.
