'Centralisation' committee works on report

by isleofman.com 29th January 2009
Work is continuing on plans to centralise the Manx government's maintenance and trades staff in a single department.

The issue was raised in a written question in the House of Keys, by North Douglas MHK Bill Henderson.

He asked DoLGE minister John Shimmin what plans were in place, and what impact there would be on staff.

In his reply Mr Shimmin said a Council of Ministers committee had been set up following a resolution at the December sitting of Tynwald.

It is looking at whether estate staff throughout government, and ownership of government property, should be centralised.

Mr Shimmin said the committee needed more time to complete its report, but the matter would be debated at a future sitting of Tynwald.
