Vikings A launch title defence

by isleofman.com 25th January 2009
Vikings A launched their women’s title defence in style on Saturday.

They defeated reigning champions and rivals Bacchas A 3-2 in the match of the day, courtesy of a double from Kim Carney and a Karen Faragher goal.

Louise Corkill and Sharon Pope were on target for Bacchas but the champions defeated last season’s runners-up.

Elsewhere, an Andrea Kneen hat-trick fired Valkyrs A to a 3-2 victory over Ramsey A, for whom Sarah Breen and Lauren Finch found the net.

And there was another five goal contest as goals from Kerry Kelly, Hannah Logan and Hannah Leece earned Castletown a close success over Phoenix A.

In men’s Division One, champions Bacchas A made it two wins out of two by thrashing Castletown 12-2.

The stars of the show were prolific scorers Karl Moore and Dave Kneale who each hit four.

Phil Smith (two), Gareth Craig and Richard Le Page netted the others with Paul Kelly and Sven Lindick notching the Town consolations.

Bacchas B gave Valkyrs A a scare before Valkyrs triumphed 2-1, thanks to goals from Chris Thomas and Gerry Quinn.

John Rimmer was the Bacchas B scorer.

Two from Ollie Webster and one apiece from Sam Moffatt and Keith Corkill secured Ramsey A a 4-0 victory over Vikings B, while doubles from Steve Crowe and Conor Byrne, and one each from Simon Foster, Andrew Harding and Mark Dougherty, ensured Vikings A were 7-0 winners over Valkyrs B.
