Cancer expert hopes to inspire Manx students

A cancer expert is visiting the Isle of Man next week, with the aim of encouraging Manx students to consider a career in medical research.

Professor Geoffrey Pilkington is a leading brain tumour research specialist at Portsmouth University, having worked in the field for nearly 40 years.

But he has serious concerns about the future because he feels not enough young people are interested in this area.

Professor Pilkington will be speaking to pupils from King Williams and St Ninians on Monday about the study of cancer in order to find treatments.

The talk is aimed at sixth form science students.

The visit has been organised by the Isle of Man Anti-Cancer Association as part of its 50th anniversary celebrations.

President Carole Cowin is hopeful the young people will find it an inspiring experience (audio file attached):
