Island produces good quality recyclables

An assurance is being given that recyclable materials collected in the Isle of Man are being processed when they are sent away, and not stockpiled or burned.

Recycling manager for the Department of the Environment Stephanie Gray says when paper, plastic and metals go to the United Kingdom records are kept of them being processed for reuse.

Her comments come in the wake of stories in the UK press saying the market for such materials, particularly in China and India, has dipped.

Ms Gray (pictured) says that hasn't been an issue here, as materials are separated at source on the Island, providing a better quality product for recycling:
