Changes to Southern 100 format

by isleofman.com 7th January 2009
The ever-popular Steam Packet International Southern 100 Road Races will have a revised race programme for its 2009 running on July 13th, 14th, 15th and 16th.

The ‘Friendly Races’ will, as in recent years, start on the Monday with a full evening’s practice and qualifying.

Tuesday though sees a change of schedule, with racing preceding practice.

Also there'll be three races instead of two as the organising committee has made the decision to include a second eight-lap 600cc event, such is the demand for entries in this class.

Wednesday sees the traditional four-race programme, with Forgotten Era machines being permitted into the Classic event for the first time.

The race will be divided into two classes: Class 1 – 300cc to 850cc Classic Machines and Class 2 – 230cc to 1000cc Forgotten Era Machines.

Finally, Championship Day Thursday will have six races, including the premier ones of the meeting, the Solo and Sidecar Championships.

Thursday evening also sees the open-air prize presentation in Castletown Square.

It's a great social occasion where fans and locals can mix with the established stars and the up-and-coming riders and their families in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

Supplementary regulations and entry forms for the Southern 100 will be available in the near future via the club’s official website, www.southern100.com.

All recent competitors will have the documents sent to them by post.
