League concerns over young soldiers

by isleofman.com 4th January 2009
The Celtic League has expressed concern about the ill treatment of young people in the British Armed Forces.

Director of information Bernard Moffatt (pictured) has written to the United Nations Special Representative of the Secretary General for Children and Armed Conflict, Radhika Coomaraswamy, urging her to look into the matter.

It follows a BBC investigation in the wake of the Deepcut inquiry into the deaths of a number of young people which showed ill-treatment of young recruits was still endemic.

The League opposes the recruitment of young people under the age of 18 into the armed forces and has raised the issue with authorities in Scotland, Wales and the Isle of Man.
