Cautious optimism at start of New Year

As the Isle of Man prepares for an uncertain twelve months in the face of the worldwide economic recession, the chief minister says it's not all doom and gloom.

Tony Brown (pictured) says the slow-down in the United Kingdom's economy will ultimately have an impact, but it's highly unlikely the Island will see negative growth during the next financial year.

At this stage accurate predictions are impossible, but Mr Bown says the government can be more responsive than the UK when issues arise.

He points to the ongoing programme of capital investment by his administration, which continues to support the Manx economy, and the range of services being provided for the Island's population:
