Chief minister says 'stay positive' in 2009

As a new year dawns, residents of the Isle of Man are being urged to remain confident the Island will continue to prosper, despite the economic gloom elsewhere.

Chief Minister Tony Brown says the government is optimistic the Manx economy will continue to develop, and the quality of life here will improve.

In his New Year message to the Island, Mr Brown says nobody knows whether there will be difficult times ahead, or what the impact of the downturn in the United Kingdom economy will be.

But he wants everybody to stay positive:
