Queen honours Karran and Moore

by isleofman.com 31st December 2008
Many years of voluntary work, carried out by two of the Island's best known lawyers, is recognised in the Queen's New Year honours list.

Geoff Karran has been awarded the MBE for his contribution to sport and disabled people in the Isle of Man, and Martin Moore receives the same honour for service to the Island's heritage.

Mr Karran (pictured) is executive chairman of the Sports Council and heads the organising committee for the 2011 Commonwealth Youth Games, which the Island will host.

He was also instrumental in the development of the Project 21 Centre, a sport and recreation facility for people with learning difficulties, which opened last year.

Mr Karran says it's great to receive recognition for work for which he has a real passion (play first audio file):

Martin Moore became a trustee of Manx National Heritage in 1982 and was appointed chairman eight years ago.

He says a large number of people - including the trustees, outgoing director Stephen Harrison and supportive politicians - have contributed to the success of the organisation since the early 80s (play second audio file):
