More depositor protection needed - MHK

A new insurance scheme for bank customers is being put forward by Onchan MHK Peter Karran.

Mr Karran was the only MHK to vote against the Early Payment Scheme for depositors in the collapsed Kaupthing Bank at this month's Tynwald sitting.

Account holders will each receive ?1,000 under the scheme, funded with the release of ?11 million from government reserves.

Mr Karran (pictured) says the authorities have been forced into crisis management, and a suitable scheme to protect investors and taxpayers must be set-up for the future:
