Callum guns down Laxey

by isleofman.com 21st December 2008
Reigning champions St George’s showed why they won’t relinquish their grip on the Sure Mobile Premier League without a fight on Saturday.

They thrashed rivals Laxey 5-0 at Glencrutchery Road to keep up the pressure at the top.

Island international Callum Morrissey was the star of the show with a hat-trick with Chris Melly and Neil Brogan notching the others in the romp.

Peel remain top after an important 2-0 win at battling Ramsey, courtesy of a goal in each half from Kerron Christian, in a match in which Kelvin Dawson marked his 500th game for the westerners with a clean sheet.

Rushen staged a superb fightback to retain their championship hopes.

Newly promoted Michael looked to be on course for a memorable victory when they led 2-0 with 20 minutes remaining.

But the home side fought back with Chris Shimmin, Tom Craine and Aaron Hawley all finding the net in a frantic finish.

Colby boosted their survival hopes with a 5-2 win at Union Mills.

Goals from Michael Baker, Martin Moore (two), Craige Gelling and Mark Barron sealed the win.

All this, after Union Mills led 2-0 at one stage through Richard Cannell and Sam Caine.
