'Liberating' scheme welcomed by farmer

Young farmers in the Isle of Man are welcoming the overhaul of farm subsidies, agreed in Tynwald this week.

The Countryside Care Scheme is the biggest turning point the industry has faced in decades.

Out go subsidies for food production, and in their place come payments for keeping agricultural land in good order.

For the enthusiasts, it's an opportunity to connect with the consumer again and produce what the market wants.

Young farmer Ian Parsons from Laxey thinks the new regime will be liberating (play attached audio file):
