Petition seeks Kaupthing answers

by isleofman.com 19th December 2008
"Show us the money!"

That's the message behind a petition on the Number 10 Downing Street website, calling for clarity in the Kaupthing Singer and Friedlander affair.

It wants papers to be made public after the United Kingdom Government froze ?550 million of assets in the country's banking system during the recent Icelandic crisis.

The frozen funds include substantial sums deposited by Isle of Man customers of the failed bank Kaupthing Singer and Friedlander.

Creator of the petition Michael Nolan claims on the website that "clandestine and secret means were used to freeze the assets" and wants related court papers to be made public.

The petition is based on what he calls "two big questions", which are: "Did the UK government act rashly? and are the UK Government and Treasury hiding the truth?"

To date there are over 300 names on the petition, and the deadline to sign it is April 16, 2009.
