Winter vomiting virus advice

by isleofman.com 17th December 2008
People suffering the effects of the winter vomiting virus are being told not to visit Accident and Emergency at Noble's Hospital.

There has been an outbreak of the Norovirus in the United Kingdom, and there are concerns the small number of cases reported in the Isle of Man recently could increase.

The main symptoms are diarrhoea and vomiting and director of public health Dr Parameshwaran Kishore (pictured) is offering this simple advice:

"If people get symptoms and they are generally fit and healthy there is no need to worry, you just have to sit it out.

"However, if you feel you need medical advice, please don't go to the Accident and Emergency unit or the Minor Injuries Unit at Noble's.

"Please contact your doctor, (and) go and visit your general practitioner's surgery. Contact your GP by phone to seek advice and if necessary the GP will visit you and provide appropriate medical treatment."
