Andy Kershaw back in court

by isleofman.com 17th December 2008
Former BBC DJ Andy Kershaw has been given a suspended prison sentence for breaching a restraining order.

He appeared in court again in Douglas today, after unexpectedly flying back to the Isle of Man.

His advocate Kevin O'Rearden described the 49-year-old as a 'complete prat', but said his client returned voluntarily yesterday to 'face the music'.

Police had previously issued a warrant for Kershaw's arrest for the breach.

The court heard Kershaw went to his home in Peel and while he was in the town he was seen by his son, who lives with Kershaw's ex-partner Juliet Banner. He spoke to the boy and hugged him.

His son told his mother and she reported the contact to police.

Kershaw (pictured) was arrested and spent the night in custody.

In court today, High Bailiff Michael Moyle heard that Kershaw had come back to face the music. He had picked himself up and wanted to get on with his life, and he had not breached the restraining order for seven months.

Mr Moyle gave Kershaw a six month prison sentence suspended for two years with conditions. He must attend anger management courses, and courses to control drugs and alcohol.

He warned him that should there be any breach the sentence would be activated.
