More Xmas advice from police

by isleofman.com 16th December 2008
Police are again urging people to stay safe this Christmas and have issued advice on a wide range of issues.

Officers from all five neighbourhood policing teams will be out on high-visibility patrols to make sure there are no problems on the Island’s streets during the holiday period.

The force says it will prioritise resources during busy times, in particular during shopping hours and night time entertainment periods.

The aim is to cut down on incidents of shoplifting, public disorder and drink-driving, although officers say there are other potential problems to consider.

Police say it is the time of year for opportunistic thieves, and say people should make sure doors and windows are locked.

If you’re out on the town, the advice is to drink sensibly, keep your valuables safe and out of sight, and take public transport or a taxi home at the end of the night.

But as well as that, officers say they are determined to clamp down on domestic violence at what can be a stressful time of the year.

They are appealing for anybody facing any sort of violence to get in touch so they can take appropriate action and help victims.
